Town Hall Meetings are great events, especially in Tampa. Mayor Pam Iorio assembles every major department head to attend the four annual events. Attendance is never what it could be. The lack of public participation seems to always be a disappointment. Residents have a chance to express their issues and the Mayor responds, frequently the Department head responds, while the Mayor measures their response to the problem. Most frequently the resident gets a call back the next day and the issue raised works towards a resolution. The Port Tampa meeting focused mostly on transportation and specifically the widening and changes on Gandy Blvd. Concerns about the newly planned WalMart on Gandy were also raised along with water drainage, use, and recycling/conservation efforts. Florida Department of Transportation officials were present to provide the most up to date information and to respond to questions. If you have a City problem or concern, these meetings are the place to express your issues, identify the department in charge, and to actually have a Mayor supervised process with the potential to get results.
