With the talking of the slow economic times, it is with a lot of community involvement that each year 100 homes in need of attention get a day of volunteer efforts and more to spruce up the neighborhoods. Home Depot and the City of Tampa organized the annual Paint Your Heart Out event throughout the city. Homes were selected by various standards including requests of need by homeowners, suggestions from the code enforcement departments, suggestions from neighbors and neighborhood associations. Over 1000 volunteers spent the day scraping, sanding, landscaping, painting and more. Even the Mayor and other City employees rolled up their shirt sleeves and spent a day working. Homeowners were appreciative and proud of the efforts . The impact of improving a home has also served to motivate neighbors to improve their homes as well. The weather provided for a perfect day and everyone seemed to have a great time, but it was the warm feeling in their hearts that made it all worthwhile.
