Gasparilla Invasion 2008
The Annual Gasparilla invasion was as big in 2008 as ever. The pirate spirit was evident as the rush of boats heralded the landing of the Jose Gaspar Pirate ship to Tampa’s downtown. Mayor Pam Iorio promptly surrendered the city and the festivities began. Through an overcast sky, the almost 70 degree temperatures provided the right mix to watch the over two hour parade and invasion spectacular. Beads and more were tossed from parade floats as the Krewes provided the pirate spirit of this biggest of Tampa events. Gasparilla continues with the Sant Yago Night Parade in Ybor on Saturday, Feb. 16. For the more athletic types, the Gasparilla Distance Classic will feature runs along Bayshore from downtown on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 9 and 10 and the Gasparilla Festival of the Arts will be on Saturday and Sunday, March 1 and 2.
