After four years of discussion, fundraising, planning, and more, the Freedom Playground at Macfarlane Park in West Tampa was dedicated on Feb. 2, 2008. The realization of a dream of a park where kids of all abilities can play together required a lot of effort by volunteers, the City, and many individual and corporate contributors – including us.
Tampa Parks Director Karen Palus, Mayor Pam Iorio, City Council members Mary Mulhern, John Dingfelder, and Linda Saul-Sena were present. The arched gateway sign was created by Dominique Martinez and Rustic Steel Creations It was the idea of Stefani Busansky to build this unique park partially for her kids Sarah and Claire. The dedication ceremony was very special, just as the park is. While the park is now officially open, the fundraising needs still exist. Checks can be mailed to Freedom Playground Foundation at P.O.
