Thomas Balsley, architect for the Curtis Hixon Park, made a special presentation on plans for the park’s renaissance as part of the Riverwalk, Tampa Museum of Art, and Children’s Museum area. The Downtown Partnership organized the event and about 50 interested residents attended to get the details and to provide comment and input as the final plans for the park become more focused. Several public meetings have allowed Balsley to adjust and adopt new approaches to making the park a true Tampa location and this meeting was no exception. Several concerns focused on the desire for more shade for various areas of the park, pedestrian access, problems with the homeless population, whether the City can afford to pay for the maintenance, and more. Balsley was very clear that the main measurement of any park’s success is whether it is used.
