The sound of the wrecking ball was too far away to be heard from the new, temporary location of the Tampa Museum of Art as the previous building was being demolished to make way for Curtis Hixon Park. The official opening at 2306 N. Howard Avenue in Old West Tampa featured music, participation, art, and more. The most noticeable feature of the event was the enthusiasm of Old West Tampa businesses and residents that was highlighted by the recognition of the heritage through the music and exhibits presented. This two year location will have a significant impact on the neighborhood. The historic Centro Espanol building is the current location with offices, exhibit space, and workshop areas. The city owned building has been provided while the new building on the North side of Curtis Hixon Park is under construction. One of Tampa’s least known treasures in the back of the building.
